coverimage.jpgIt's be quite some time since I posted anything about painting or other aspects of modeling here, but at some point I got a request to detail how I painted up the other mechs in the lance. For the tutorial I will be using a plastic Victor model from the CityTech boxed set. I did try to convert it to more closely match the metal version available so if you have that model things should still follow pretty closely. Even though this is specifically for painting the Victor, the process should still work for any mech you wish to paint in this color scheme. If all goes well you should end up with something that looks close to the model on the left. In this tutorial I'll be covering the primary blue-gray, metals, and red accents. I'll leave baseing and details like cockpits, decals or freehand markings up to the discretion of the painter. So without further interruption, click the read more link to get started!

Yeah, I guess I'm still around. Not that anyone actually reads this anymore but just in case I thought an explanation was at least in order. The last few months have been quite the trip. It seems that this little thing called Love has come to call and cupid got shot down by Zeus as he let fly his dart. Well that over with, I can say that God has had a plan in it all and it's worked out in his time. As of nearly a month, I've been dating someone I consider to be the most awesome girl in the world. After reading that last line you might find the title of this little post a little odd, but it does have reason! While the last couple of months have been somewhat confusing to say the least, I can say now that I'm not confused in the head anymore. Here's to many more wonderful months, days, and years with you Tesh!

marines.jpgI'll admit I've managed to be caught up with the little plastic people and slightly abnormal human following of tabletop wargaming. In the past several months I've managed to start writing back story, come up with color schemes, and actually get around to painting a few of the little guys. Of course given the amount of time thats currently going into painting them, this hobby should last me for a fairly long period of time. I guess it's just fun to paint the figures, as for the game itself, who knows. I may end up playing or I might just paint. Will have to see after I get enough together to actually play. So yeah, thats my new hobby and the one that I seem to be throwing a ton of time into.

o_egypt02.jpgI'm pretty happy today despite what appears to be a bad chalupa or two alerting me to its' presence because I'm officially half way trhough with my study of middle Egyptian grammer. It's been a little under a year of study so far to get here and being able to look at reliefs and read alot more of the inscriptions is exhilerating. I feel though that the hardest parts are yet to come and I still have a ways to go to properly prepare myself to travel to Egypt next year to study the ruins and history they contain.

I finally got around to reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu. I'd heard so much about the book and how great it was that I really was looking forward to it. After reading nearly 200 pages of fluff by probably the only author that actually made history boring for me (and this from a history minor and avid Egyptology student) I was ready to start in. It was a slightly underwhelming start and I thought maybe it would get better as I still had what appeared to be nearly half the book remaining. A few more pages in and it still didn't get farther than common sense that was nowhere near the pinicle of military prowess I expceted. Then I turned the page, and it said notes. That was it. I still had at least a third of the book remaining and it was onto the notes on the translation. I'm now reading Caesar, at least his answer to everything isn't "teh ambush".

We finally made up to that wonderful pit of festering grease known as the Beacon last night for a somewhat late dinner. I ordered a double cheeseburger a-pleanty and I must say that was an entertaining experience. As I'm sure everyone else who went is now saying on their blogs, it's a once a year visit since it probably takes that long to process all the lard. Any more visits than that would probably constitute a major health risk for a heart attack. The ten of us packed into two cars and made the drive up in about twenty minutes thanks to the driving of one Tom Mount. After much debating what to order, we walked up to the front of the line to be greeted with the trademark "CAAALLLL ITTT!" Once we had ordered and picked up our food which amounted to about two pounds of material well over the daily allotment for grease. I did get some lettuce so that means I got some wee amount of reprieve from the grease. After a valient attempt by most of us we conceeded defeat and left the rest of the onion rings and fries on the plates. Dinner was followed by a comedy routine by Jordan and captured by the one camera present. Pictures will follow. someday. Now I must go to attempt to work the lard out of my system.

o_egypt02.jpgI've run into a small roadblock in my Egyptian language studies. It seems that I have done well at memorizing the hierglyphic and equating it to both the transliterated Egyptian word and the English definition but I have failed to do the reverse. I'm finding it hard to remember the transliteration and hieroglyphic when I translate from English to Egyptian because I really haven't placed the emphasis on recognizing the words from the reversed perspective. I guess I'll have to go back and work on it again. In the mean time my notepad is my guide to remembering all the stuff I should already know. In other news I have one leson more until I'm a third of the way through Gardiner. At my current pace I should be all finished sometime next year. That is provided I don't get twisted up over stuff like pf, pfy, and pf3. I should also mention that postes are going to start getting more scarce as thanksgiving draws near since I'll be out of town for most of the holiday and I have alot of work to get done in the interim.

It's amazing just how fast a weekend can fly by. It seems that it was only a few hours ago that Friday was just ending and the weekend was starting. Here it is, nearly time to hit the sack and get ready for work tomorrow. Several of my friends dropped by from out of town and spent the weekend which was a lot of fun. We went shopping at the mall which was my first time in over a year to set foot in the place. Quite supprising at just how much had changed since my last visit.  After that we went on campus to try to watch a soccer game, but after being discouraged by the sloppy football we came back home. We watched a few movies this weekend, so expect a little blurb about "Over the Hedge" coming up pretty soon. I'm exhausted now, but I think I've gotten the house all cleaned up and ready for the week which means it's just about time to crash :P
